Douglas Leo Freeman

Founder

Douglas has always wanted to help people in some way to be self-expressed and live their authentic selves.  To prepare, he had to do this for himself first.  He has survived the complex trauma of growing up in a high-demand religion and the emotional abuse of being raised by a narcissistic mother in a highly dysfunctional family.  At the age of 43, he finally came out as a gay man after trying to live straight, marrying 3different women and having 4 beautiful daughters.

During this lifelong process, he earned degrees in Psychology and Holistic Life Coaching.  He learned several energy-healing modalities and trained as an Astrologer. He applied all of this knowledge himself and shared it with clients part-time while working as a finance manager, school teacher, and store manager for an optical company - literally helping people to see their world better.

He quit that job in 2022 to become a fully self-employed spiritual coach, helping people see themselves better from the inside out.  He partnered with Jeff Richins to form H.E.R.O.S. Coaching, LLC to begin helping people recover from substance abuse and live a sober life.  He has utilized his own recovery from a behavioral addiction, his training in nervous system regulation, and his years of coaching experience to develop with Jeff a modern approach to sobriety that is trauma-informed and based on cutting-edge neuroscience.

Doug and Jeff have founded H.E.R.O.S. Community Foundation in their efforts to provide recovery coaching to anyone who needs it, regardless of their financial situation. It is heartbreaking to see people who cannot afford their own recovery.  Doug is passionate about and dedicated to helping anyone reconnect to and love themselves and live their authentic life in true sobriety.
